"Monsoon Postcards" offers offbeat, witty and insightful glimpses into Madagascar, India, Bangladesh, and Indonesia: linked by history, trade, migration, religion and a colonial legacy.
Historian and journalist David Mould traverses the Indian Ocean—from Madagascar through India and Bangladesh to Indonesia. It’s an unpredictable journey on battered buses, bush taxis, auto-rickshaws and crowded ferries. Along the way, in markets, shops, roadside cafes and classrooms, he meets journalists, professors, students, aid workers, cab drivers, and slum-dwellers to learn how they view their past and future. Monsoon Postcards offers offbeat, witty and insightful glimpses into four countries linked by history, trade, migration, religion and a colonial legacy. Offered in partnership with Gramercy Books, copies of Monsoon Postcards will be available for sale and signing.
David Mould, professor emeritus of media arts and studies at Ohio University, has traveled widely in Asia and southern Africa. Born in the UK, he worked as a newspaper and TV journalist before moving to the US in 1978. Kirkus Reviews describes him as “A genial travel guide … an academic who does not write like an academic.”
