Join Joshua Borths, Director of Opera and Musical Theater at Capital University, for a discussion about the history of opera and what to listen for when you attend a performance.
Many have called opera "the ultimate art form" since it combines all other disciplines into one incredible work of art. Join Joshua Borths, Director of Opera and Musical Theater at Capital University, for a discussion about the history of the art form, what to listen for when you attend a performance, and why Hamilton may be our greatest modern opera.
Borths arrives as the Director of Opera and Musical Theater at Capital University after serving 4 years as Arizona Opera's Resident Stage Director and Director of Education and Community Engagement: directing new productions, managing education programs, and creating community initiatives that reached 70,000 people annually. Additionally, Borths is a member of the summer directing staff of Des Moines Metro Opera and has held positions at the Crane School of Music (SUNY Potsdam), the Seagle Music Colony, and the Crested Butte Music Festival.
As an assistant director, Borths has worked with many opera companies including Arizona Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Michigan Opera Theater, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Festival della Valle d'Itria, and his educational adaptations of classic operas have been seen at Toledo Opera, Atlanta Opera, Arizona Opera, and the Florida State University.
Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
The library is located at 2411 East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main Street and Cassady Avenue. Parking is available in our parking lot on Euclaire Avenue and in front of the library on Main Street. Main Street is a No Parking Tow Zone from 4:00-6:00 p.m. weekdays.
