June 6, 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the Anglo-American invasion of France, the famous D-Day invasion along the Normandy Coast. The largest amphibious operation in history, D-Day is perhaps the most renowned American military event with the possible exception of the Battle of Gettysburg. Famous though it is, the invasion was a fraught endeavor. The Americans in particular made serious mistakes in both planning and execution, and the issue hung in the balance at Omaha Beach until a handful of American infantrymen, officers, and naval commanders made independent decisions that swung the momentum of battle.
David Steigerwald, Professor of History and Director of the Program in the Trans-National Study of WWII at The Ohio State University, will recount the broad strategy as well as the small details of the allied invasion.
Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
The library is located at 2411 East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main Street and Cassady Avenue. Parking is available in our parking lot on Euclaire Avenue and in front of the library on Main Street. Main Street is a No Parking Tow Zone from 4:00-6:00 p.m. weekdays.
