Please note: The Bexley Public Library will close today, April 2nd, at 3:30pm due to the impending inclement weather.
This session, led by Shadia Jallaq, will cover the status of women in elected office in Ohio and offer resources and tips for women who want to run for political office or serve as community leaders.
Women make up greater than 50% of the U.S. population, but hold only 23.7% of the 535 seats in the 116th U.S. Congress. Women running for office win at similar rates to their male counterparts, so what is holding women back from holding elected office? This session, led by Shadia Jallaq, will cover the current status of women in elected office in Ohio and discuss resources and tips for women who want to run for political office or serve as community leaders.
Shadia Jallaq manages Programs for Ohio Women Empowered to Represent (POWER). The POWER initiative at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs includes NEW Leadership Ohio and Ready to Run-Campaign Training for Women. Shadia is passionate about empowering women and helping them realize their potential. She currently serves on the board of trustees for the South-Western City Schools Educational Foundation and the Association of Staff and Faculty Women and is a member of Ohio Women in Government. Shadia is a proud alumna of The Ohio State University, graduating cum laude with Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and International Studies.
Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
The library is located at 2411 East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main Street and Cassady Avenue. Parking is available in our parking lot on Euclaire Avenue and in front of the library on Main Street. Main Street is a No Parking Tow Zone from 4:00-6:00 p.m. weekdays.
