Home History Resources
Franklin County Auditor
The Franklin County Auditor’s records provide information related to property value and taxes and can provide property acreage, the year a home was constructed, and recent alterations or improvements. A parcel history sheet available from the auditor’s site will detail property values, previous owners and indicate when the property was initially constructed upon.
Franklin County Recorder
The Franklin County Recorder’s records provide access to deeds that detail property transfers from grantee’s (buyers) and grantor’s (sellers). Working backwards previous owners can be discovered as well as a property description, lot number, the name of the addition the property is located in, parcel number, sale value, and restrictions on how the property is used.
Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps
Large scale street plans – including building outlines, property boundaries, and building use - produced by the Sanborn Fire Insurance Company from 1867 to 1970. Locate buildings and neighborhoods. See a neighborhood "as it was". Study the growth of towns and cities. Identify the impact of new developments.
