Restoring Alum Creek: Habitat, Community & Action
With Jerry Holloway of Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries
Wednesday, October 14
6:30pm - 8:00pm
Bexley Public Library
Bexley Library AuditoriumLearn why invasive plants can disrupt ecosystems and how native plants support wildlife, protect soil, and strengthen habitat. Presented by Jerry Holloway from Friends of Alum Creek & Tributaries.
Alum Creek is an important part of our community—providing habitat for wildlife, connecting neighborhoods to nature, and carrying water through the heart of Central Ohio. But like many urban waterways, Alum Creek faces challenges that affect the health and diversity of the creek and the land along its banks.
Learn why invasive plants can disrupt ecosystems and how native plants support wildlife, protect soil, and strengthen habitat. We’ll explore the health of the watershed and the role it plays in our local environment. You’ll learn about FACT (Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries) and its work, as well as Green Bexley’s Habitat Restoration initiative and our partnership to remove invasive plants and restore native habitat. Most importantly, we’ll share how community volunteers are making this work possible and how you can join us.
About the Speaker:
Jerry Holloway was born in San Antonio, Texas to a career military family and grew up all over the United States in different military bases. Holloway became environmentally concerned while he was in the military assigned in Southeast Asia where he saw the disastrous environmental effects of agent orange. Upon returning to the States, Holloway went back to college in 1970 and experienced the very first Earth Day and made a commitment to work towards a better environment. He's been a Board member and volunteer with Friends of Alum Creek and Tributaries (FACT) for 25 years. He has also represented FACT on the Central Ohio Watershed Council for 2 years. Jerry is currently an instructor for community backyards conservation workshops for the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation district and has been teaching classes for 7 years.
