Carole M. Genshaft is curator-at-large at the Columbus Museum of Art and enjoyed a close relationship with Aminah Robinson beginning in the late 1980s. Since Robinson’s death in 2015, she has supervised the organization and documentation of the artist’s estate, which was left to the Museum. She has curated and co-curated many exhibitions about Robinson’s life and work, including Symphonic Poem, a retrospective of the artist’s work that travelled nationally in 2006. In 2018, she organized Kindred Spirits, an exhibition about the relationship between Robinson and her friend and mentor, folk artist Elijah Pierce. In addition to contributing articles about Robinson to many publications, Genshaft has written Aminah’s World, a children’s book about Robinson’s life and art.
A native of the Near East Side of Columbus, Deidre Hamlar is a lawyer, arts administrator, artists' representative, arts business consultant and independent curator. Following a deep passion for the power of arts to communicate across cultures, she founded Peaceworks Gallery in Columbus in 1990, became a multicultural educator with The Columbus Museum of Art and Walker Art Center, was community engagement facilitator for the development of the Poindexter Museum and Cultural Center, co-curator of the 2016 Columbus Historical Society exhibition, Poindexter Village: A Portrait in Stories, and co-authored Roads Diverge: William L. Hawkins and Elijah Pierce in Columbus in William Hawkins: an Imaginative Geography (Skira 2018). Since 2018, Hamlar has worked with the Columbus Museum of Art to archive and curate Robinson's art and writing in preparation for the current catalogue, exhibition and artist's residence.
Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
The library is located at 2411 East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main Street and Cassady Avenue. Parking is available in our parking lot on Euclaire Avenue and in front of the library on Main Street. Main Street is a No Parking Tow Zone from 4:00-6:00 p.m. weekdays.
