Explore the wonders of our universe with Ohio State's Astronomy Department. The presentation will be followed by stargazing with telescopes outside of the library, depending on the weather.
Explore the science, theories, and wonders of our universe with faculty and students from The Ohio State University Astronomy Department. Meet us in the parking lot for a presentation, ask-an-astronomer mingling, and stargazing with telescopes (weather permitting). All ages welcome.
This Thursday's presentation will be:
Dr. Chun-Hao To will present Simulating the Universe with Supercomputers
Harnessing the power of advanced technology, our ability to simulate the cosmos has significantly advanced over the past few decades. These simulations describe the formation and evolution of galaxies and cosmic webs, spanning billions of years from shortly after the Big Bang to the present day. Today, these cutting-edge simulations serve as essential tools for investigating the nature of dark matter and dark energy. In this talk, I will first describe the process by which these simulations model the formation of cosmic webs and galaxies. I will then spotlight the pivotal role of these cosmological simulations in the journey of revealing the dark nature of our universe.
This program is also in partnership with Astronomy on Tap, so feel free to grab a beverage from one of our local DORA partners and enjoy a cocktail while you learn about the cosmos during the outdoor part of the program. DORA Partners: Cafe Istanbul, Harvest Pizza, Giuseppe’s Ritrovo, Brassica, Moshi Sushi, and Rusty Bucket.
