Join us for an engaging discussion between Ukrainian composer Alla Zagaykevych and Classical 101's Christopher Purdy in partnership with Capital University Conservatory. Alla's unique musical insights and moving stories will show the resilience of art and the human spirit during the challenges of wartime.
Alla Zagaykevych is a Ukrainian composer, performance artist, published musicologist, and curator of electroacoustic music projects. After graduating from Kyiv National Music Academy of Ukraine, she has been teaching at the Composition Department of the Kyiv National Music Academy of Ukraine, where she founded the Electronic Music Studio. She is the Composer-in-Residence of the 2024 NOW MUSIC Festival at Capital University.
Christopher Purdy is Classical 101's early morning host, 7-10 a.m. weekdays. He is host and producer of Front Row Center – Classical 101’s weekly celebration of Opera and more – as well as Music in Mid-Ohio, Concerts at Ohio State, and the Columbus Symphony broadcast series. He is the regular pre-concert speaker for Columbus Symphony performances in the Ohio Theater.
The NOW Festival @ Capital University is a celebration of contemporary music—primarily the 20th- and 21st-century art music styles, but also including progressive jazz and popular musics. The festival has one simple, yet extremely important mission: to expose the Central Ohio community to international, national, and regional living composers and their music. The annual festival is one of the most comprehensive and diversified celebrations of contemporary music and its composers presented in the Midwest.
