Jared Margulies, author of "The Cactus Hunters," visits BPL to discuss his book which has been described as a "blend of international intrigue, social theory, botanical lore, and ecological study."
Join us as Jared D. Margulies, Assistant Professor of political ecology at the University of Alabama and the author of The Cactus Hunters: Desire and Extinction in the Illicit Succulent Trade, visits the Bexley Public Library to discuss his book that explores the illicit succulent trade and dives into the passion behind collecting these plants, even at the risk of leaving some species extinct. From the publisher, "A heady blend of international intrigue, social theory, botanical lore, and ecological study, The Cactus Hunters offers complex insight into species extinction, conservation, and more-than-human care."
About the Author:
Jared D. Marguilies is assistant professor of political ecology in the Department of Geography at the University of Alabama. His work has been published in leading academic journals across the fields of social, cultural, and political geography; political ecology; the conservation social sciences; and environmental humanities. The Cactus Hunters: Desire and Extinction in the Illicit Succulent Trade is his first book.

Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
The library is located at 2411 East Main Street, at the intersection of East Main Street and Cassady Avenue. Parking is available in our parking lot on Euclaire Avenue and in front of the library on Main Street. Main Street is a No Parking Tow Zone from 4:00-6:00 p.m. weekdays.
