Discover how the Friends of Scioto Brush Creek engaged with their community, and the lasting impact of their efforts to protect and preserve this extraordinary waterway.
Scioto Brush Creek—a tributary of the lower Scioto River—winds through portions of Adams and Scioto Counties, supporting an exceptional warmwater habitat and a remarkably intact fish population. This outstanding stream is a true national treasure, and has recently been designated a State Scenic River by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.
This presentation will share the story of how the Friends of Scioto Brush Creek came together, the steps they took to engage their community, and the lasting impact of their efforts to protect and preserve this extraordinary waterway.
Martin McAllister is a founding Board Member and Past President of the Friends of Scioto Brush Creek, Inc., and has worked in conservation for over 40 years. Much of his career was with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources as a naturalist, land manager, and administrator. Martin now serves as the Community Engagement Specialist for The Nature Conservancy’s 23,000-acre Edge of Appalachia Nature Preserve in Adams County.
This program is presented in partnership with Rooted In Bexley.

Bexley Public Library was founded in 1924 and first housed in Bexley High School, now Montrose Elementary School. The present building opened in 1929 and was designed by architects O.C. Miller and R.R. Reeves who drew upon French and Italian architecture from the 17th century for the design.
